On Nov. 2, 2004, Georgetown voters approved a bond proposal to
build an incredible new $9.8 million library! The great news is that our extraordinary new facility is almost done! If you haven't dropped by to see the construction progress, please do so now! We think you'll be pleased to see your tax dollars hard at work on such a worthwhile project!
The innovative, multifunctional facility is more than
three times the size of the current library. It was designed to eventually serve a community of 90,000 people -- Georgetown's projected population
in 2020. Parking is more than double at the new library site.
Perhaps the best news yet is that our beautiful new library is right on schedule: residents will see our first-class library
facility open in early 2007 -- and that's just around the corner!
Tasteful and practical, the new library will be a source of pride
for all of Georgetown, and yet another reason we can say we're a
smart and progressive community.
But we're not out of the woods yet! We still very much need your support.
While the bond provides for the construction of the new facility, state law says that's all it can be used for. Construction only. No chairs, no desks, no furniture, no computers, no lamps, no furnishings. Nothing unrelated to physical construction of the facilty.
We obviously desparately need all of those things. And lot's of it. The heat's not off just because we got the bond passed and the new library is almost up. In fact, the heat's been turned up, because the last thing we want is to open to an empty shell.
Please read on to learn how you can help outfit the great -- albeit spare -- new library!
